An algorithmic work created by an original deep learning neural network (a Conditional Restricted Boltzmann Machine), this artificial intelligence was developed to exhibit aspects of human creativity in musical creation. Its focus is the entrainment of information density patterns found in classical voice leading (in the music of J.S. Bach) and the reproduction of those same patterns, but with entirely new melodic figuration. This piece is the result of over 500 hours of creative effort developing the musical analysis, coding the model, tuning the network, and processing the results. An original implementation of the neural network running on the Big Red II supercomputing cluster composed this specific work. First presented at the Musical Metacreation workshop at the International Conference on Computational Creativity in 2018.
